India Suspends a Kashmiri Muslim from Employment, accusing him of “insulting Indian flag”

On August 13th, the Indian Sub-divisional Magistrate in Kashmir put under suspension the Executive Officer of Municipal Council in an area called Magam, over ‘Insult to National Flag’. Some Indian flags were spotted in a garbage truck in the area and consequently, without any inquiry as to how the flags ended up there, the Kashmiri Muslim employee was suspended from employment. Recently, the Indian state has enforced the hoisting of Indian flags upon Kashmiri Muslims. Families, schools, and workplaces have been ordered to raise an Indian flag, and any rejection of this “forced identification” has resulted in such suspensions and penalties.[11]
