Don’t let the Gates Foundation Reward a Murderer
Salam,
It hurts to be betrayed by a friend.
When the savage attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand led to the deaths of dozens of Muslims last March, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern gained the world’s admiration when she showed her solidarity with the victims of hate and Islamophobia.
However, she is a major speaker at the upcoming Gates Foundation Goalkeeper’s Gala, where she and others will be recognizing this year’s recipients of the Foundation’s Goalkeeper’s awards. One of the recipients is the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
By helping to reward Modi, Prime Minister Ardern will go from acting as a champion and defender of human rights to awarding one of their greatest enemies. A large group of major human rights advocates are set to participate in the Gates Foundation event. By doing this, they are signaling their endorsement of Modi’s agenda.
This is beyond absurd. Philanthropy shouldn’t involve rewarding mass murderers. Tweet at them and let them know what you think about them attending the award ceremony.
First, thank Dr. Alaa Murabit for her stance.
Thank you @almmura for withdrawing form the Goalkeepers Gala. We see your principled courage and stance. A true defenders of human rights. #Modi doesn’t deserve the #GatesFoundation award. #DontRewardModi #HatesGala Share on XThen ask the rest of the attendees to also withdraw from the event.

Two major celebrities, Jameela Jamil @jameelajamil and Riz Ahmed @RizMC, have withdrawn from participating in the Goalkeeper award ceremony next week.
Now is the time to keep the pressure on; if we work together, we can get the Foundation to see the grave mistake they have made by deciding to reward Modi.
